Meet the 20 finalists for Alberta’s cleantech awards

Foresight Canada announced the nominees for the province’s first-ever cleantech innovation recognition program.

The finalists for Alberta’s first-ever Cleantech Awards were revealed two weeks ahead of the event on April 27. Foresight Canada, the event’s organizers, shared the 20 nominees, which include innovators, industry leaders, government officials, academics, investors, and community builders.

The new annual awards ceremony recognizes inspiring change-makers from across the province that are helping lead the charge to a net zero economy.

Here are the finalists:

Venture of the Year (Group): A cleantech venture positioned to take a leadership role on the global innovation stage.

Funder of the Year (Group or individual): A funder, investor, government program, or VC championing a net zero economy by investing in cleantech ventures.

Ecosystem Supporter of the Year (Group or individual): An organization championing the growth and development of cleantech in Alberta through the support of climate-focused entrepreneurs, programs, ecosystem development, thought leadership, and community building.

Adopter of the Year (Group): A leading organization, company, or group adopting or championing sustainable practices in their industry.

The 2023 Alberta Cleantech Awards are presented by Foresight, with support from BLG, Copoint, and MLT Aikins, and with Calgary Tech Journal as the media partner.

Alberta has quickly become a clean- and climate-tech cluster, as evidenced by its strong showing in Foresight’s second annual Foresight 50, which was released last December.

The Foresight 50 is a list of Canada’s most investable cleantech companies. 17 businesses on the list hailed from Alberta – 15 from Calgary and two from Edmonton – 34 percent of the list.
