Alberta's government is investing more than $15 million in seven Calgary-based technology projects through the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction fund, supporting companies looking to bring new technologies to market while reducing emissions.

The projects cover a wide range of sectors and applications. They include what the province describes as the world's first large-scale used motor oil recycling project, methane detection and reduction technologies, materials for nuclear energy and batteries, and a drone-based system for powerline maintenance. Also among the seven is a process that uses electricity rather than water or heat to convert bitumen into asphalt, and lower-emission agricultural products.

"With support from the Government of Alberta through Emissions Reduction Alberta, we are demonstrating how Alberta-developed technology can strengthen energy networks around the world while protecting the environments they pass through," said Patrick Arnell, CEO of FulcrumAir.

The province says the seven projects are estimated to reduce 111,600 tonnes of emissions by 2030 and create more than 460 jobs. A full project list is available on Emissions Reduction Alberta's website.

The TIER fund supports Alberta companies in moving technologies from pilot projects through to commercialization, attracting investment and creating jobs across the province.
