Calgary's Chata raises $10M to tackle AI's 'black box' problem in finance
Chata Technologies has closed a $10 million USD Series A with major backing from 7RIDGE and Izou Partners. The funding will help the company push its conversational data platform into traditional finance, decentralized finance, and wealthtech—sectors where getting the wrong answer from AI isn't just annoying, it's a regulatory nightmare.
Chata's platform lets financial professionals ask questions about their data in plain English instead of building dashboards or waiting on technical teams. But the bigger selling point is how it works under the hood. The company uses what it calls deterministic AI running on CPUs instead of GPUs, which means it delivers the same answer every time for the same question—no hallucinations, no "maybe" responses. That consistency matters in regulated industries where auditors want to see exactly how you got your numbers.
CEO and founder Kelly Cherniwchan says precision is the only thing that matters now. "Neither financial professionals nor software developers—whether they are managing institutional clients or analyzing on-chain DeFi activity—cannot afford 'likely' answers; they need consistency," she said. The platform can also transform those queries into AI workers that monitor data and automate reporting.
Veronica Augustsson, partner at 7RIDGE, says Chata's approach fixes a fundamental problem—financial pros can't get trusted data in real time without calling IT. "Their CPU-based deterministic model is not just a technical differentiator; it is a commercial game-changer that offers the scalability and audit trail required by the world's most demanding financial institutions."
The platform is already working with Canton Network data for financial and DeFi organizations. Jeremie Bacon, managing director at Izou Partners, says Chata solves both the cost problem and the trust problem that have held the industry back, letting finance teams actually use their data without building massive infrastructure first.
