Decarbonization driven by data
Calgary’s Orennia, a data company focused on the energy transition, announced the close of its Series C growth financing. Orennia did not disclose the size of the investment, which was led by Decarbonization Partners: a collaboration between BlackRock and Temasek, with participation from existing investors.
Orennia’s platform — named Ion_AI — provides data, analytics, and actionable insights for power, renewables, data centres, clean fuels, and carbon capture.
“Orennia’s market-leading software platform is a prime example of how digital technologies can enable significant decarbonization outcomes across a diverse group of blue-chip customers,” said Meghan Sharp, global head and chief investment officer of Decarbonization Partners. “Developers and investors across the energy transition space require trustworthy data, analytics, and insights. Orennia’s platform allows market participants to make timely and confident investment decisions that deliver proven results and accelerate projects.”
The funding has come swiftly on the heels of Orennia’s product launch. The Ion_AI platform became available last July, with positive feedback from representatives at Arizona-based Arevon Energy and Madrid-based Gransolar Group.
